"Venus Clipping Cupid's Wings, Part 3"

Sergey Volohov
SV4
About the painting:

In the third part of the composition, Volokhov develops the theme of the relationship between Venus (embodying idealized love, sensuality, and beauty) and Cupid (a symbol of passion, childlike naivety, and the spontaneity of emotions). While the earlier parts of the cycle depicted the dramatic moment of Cupid being deprived of his wings—a symbol of love’s freedom and lightness—Part 3 is often interpreted as the stage reflecting the consequences of this act.

More details

The painting raises questions about the nature of love, responsibility for the consequences of one’s actions, maturity, and the loss of innocence. Venus’s act becomes a metaphor for restraining primal passions in favor of reason and maturity, while Cupid symbolizes lost carefree spontaneity.

This is a continuation of the artist’s series, in which he engages with mythological imagery and classical subjects, reinterpreting them within a contemporary cultural context.
