The First Half of the 19th Century — Time of Emotions and Ideals

Collection of Works of the First Half of the 19th Century of the Konosier Gallery
1st half of the 19th century
The era of the struggle between romanticism and academicism. Romantics (Delacroix, Gericault) glorified emotions, nature and exoticism, rejecting classical canons. Academicism (Ingres) preserved the ideals of antiquity, but by the 1840s realism was emerging, heralding a turning point in art.
Welcome to the first half of the 19th century section of the Konosier Gallery! This period, marked by the flourishing of romanticism, classicism and the emergence of realism, gave the world works full of emotional depth, refined aesthetics and aspiration to ideals. Paintings, sculptures, porcelain, jewelry and other works of this time reflect the spirit of the era, its cultural shifts and artistic quests.
Our collection features works created in the first half of the 19th century, from romantic landscapes and portraits to exquisite decorative objects. These works transport the viewer to a world where art celebrated nature, emotion and the human soul.
